The question “Which footballer has won the most trophies?” certainly caused a lot of debate in the office and the usual names – Messi and Ronaldo were thrown into the mix. Some of the older heads threw in a couple of names that left the youngsters a little perplexed, but it’s fair to say that none of us got the top three at all!

Underneath is a rundown of the top five, but as stated above, please see the original article for the full list – you will be amazed by the names on it and the name missing!

No 5. Kenny Dalglish – 31 Trophies won
‘King Kenny’ Dalglish was the main protagonist in the Liverpool sides that dominated English football in the late 70’s/early 80’s. After switching to Anfield from Celtic in 1977, Dalglish won 6 League titles, 1 FA Cup, 4 League Cups and 3 European Cups, all in the space of 8 years – scoring 118 goals in the process.

No 4. Dani Alves – 33 Trophies won
The Brazilian right back is the second-most decorated footballer ever, in terms of European competitions – with a total of 9 European medals. Only Paulo Maldini sits head of him. Alves enjoyed a successful six year spell at Sevilla, and after winning two UEFA Cups and the Copa Del Rey, he moved to Barcelona, where, like most players, his trophy tally rocketed through the roof.

No 3. Zlatan Ibrahimovic – 33 Trophies won
Zlatan is the world’s second most decorated player who still currently plays. The Swedish striker has been pretty much everywhere – playing for a total of 8 European clubs in 6 different leagues. He won major honours at 6/8 clubs, with his highest-yielding being with PSG, where he won the League title 4 years in a row.

No 2. Ryan Giggs – 35 Trophies won
Giggs is up there with the all-time greats of the game. Playing his entire career at Manchester United, the Welsh Wizard made 672 appearances, scoring 114 goals, and adding 35 trophies to his cabinet. Giggs has won the Premier League more times than any other player – a stat that is unlikely to be beaten.

No 1. Maxwell – 36 Trophies won
Maxwell? I know right! Though he may not be a huge name in the world of football, the Brazilian left back has enjoyed a remarkably successful career at a handful of Europe’s finest clubs. In fact, every club that Maxwell has played for, he’s won something. 36 trophies in total – now that’s not a bad haul for a guy that most people had forgotten existed.

So, how many did you get in the five? No, we didn’t get that many either!
