Mundial Musings - Here Comes The Men In Black!

No it’s not Will Smith getting jiggy with it (how hip are we!) We are talking referees!! Now stop throwing things at the screen long enough to hear us out!

Love them or loathe them, the simple truth is we need someone in the middle to make the calls and keep the games running (ahem) smoothly! Refereeing is not an easy task, sure we can all either sit watching football matches at home or in the stands and say “we could do better than that” but ultimately could we? I have tried and I am happy to admit it’s not easy!

We are very lucky at football mundial that we have, across the length and breadth of the UK, a bunch of very good, qualified and above all dedicated officials that keep the games flowing and submit the information back to the secretaries in the office in excellent time. Don’t forget that they, like you, are also out in all types of weather to make sure that the games are played.

We won’t lie, we could do with more referees to step forward and join us. Like Pete in the office says “The teams are the blood of fm, but referees are the veins and arteries, one can’t function without the other!” (guess who has had medical training!!) There will always be disputes and disagreements about decisions, goals and pretty much anything on a pitch and let’s be fair, who doesn’t enjoy a good rant about a “dodgy” decision now and then! We understand that, the refs understand it and we know that you do as well – all we ask is please keep it respectful!
